Employment

The Center for the Homeless has become one of the most widely recognized facilities serving the homeless in the nation, and serves as a place of hope and opportunity to more than 200 people each day, including 22 families with 45-60 children. Through partnerships with all sectors of the community, the Center offers comprehensive services such as medical care, counseling, education and job training as steps in a long-term interventionary model.

In a socio-political climate that seems to avoid dealing with the problem of homelessness in a compassionate yet effective way, the Center’s service model has been nationally heralded by representatives of both major political parties. In addition to serving a growing local population of homeless individuals and families, the Center strives to help communities across the nation by serving as a model. In order to truly address the issues surrounding homelessness, effective methods must be replicable and possible to achieve, regardless of locale.

The Center for the Homeless strives to live out its threefold mission to:

  • help people break the cycle of homelessness

  • bring disparate groups together so that each can discover the dignity, worth, and God-given potential of the other

  • pioneer a service model worthy of replication

The Center's goal is to assist each family and individual in achieving self-sufficiency, which involves possessing the knowledge and skills to secure decent housing, to sustain a healthy lifestyle, and to establish the life-giving relationships necessary for personal stability and growth.

Community collaboration is helping the Center realize its vision to take the best resources our community has to offer and make them inclusive of our neediest citizens. In all, more than 16 local service providers, 25 corporate sponsors, 4,000 volunteers and countless churches and benefactors help to provide a full range of services to the 2,500 people per year seeking refuge and assistance at the Center.
